Ty Gibbs Wants NASCAR to Make One Major Change to the Next Gen Car

Ty Gibbs, a NASCAR driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, believes the digital rearview camera in the Next Gen car could be removed to improve racing. During an appearance on the "Dale Jr. Download," Gibbs joked that eliminating the camera might cause some Cup Series drivers to be removed from the series. However, he emphasized that the technology has made it easier for drivers to control cars behind them.

Gibbs believes that taking away the digital camera could make racing better by forcing drivers to rely more on their own awareness and reducing their ability to block competitors based on what they see. He also recalled racing without radio communication late in a race, relying solely on his mirror to understand what was happening around him.

While NASCAR isn't likely to completely strip modern technology from the Next Gen cockpit, Gibbs' comments highlight the potential benefits of reducing information available to drivers.
