Time for DAP to revisit old commitments

In light of DAP's poor performance in recent state elections, it is time for the party to reevaluate its commitments. According to Charles Santiago, a former MP for Klang, DAP delegates are likely to vote to remain in government despite the potential backlash from Chinese voters. Santiago suggests that DAP should impose conditions for staying in the coalition to demonstrate its commitment to reform.

He proposes demanding transparency by releasing the Azam Baki report on corporate malpractice and MACC. Additionally, DAP should establish a high-level Cabinet committee on Indian affairs and prioritize workers' issues, particularly for women engaged in precarious jobs. The party should also review the Gig Workers Act to include minimum wage protections and social security.

Lastly, DAP must address the escalating cost of living by establishing a high-level committee on the subject and implementing a national school meal program. Santiago argues that these demands are not radical but rather reflect the party's former fervor for addressing these issues. With the party losing credibility, it is essential that DAP communicates its reform agenda and implementation strategy to voters.
