Taliban government supporters dance, take selfies in Kabul celebrations

Kabul witnessed a festive atmosphere as supporters of the Taliban gathered to celebrate the government's five-year rule. Hundreds of Afghans, mostly men and children, gathered near the former U.S. embassy, waving the Taliban's white flag and taking selfies while dancing to patriotic music. Some Taliban members posed with AK-47 rifles and even a rocket-propelled grenade.

The authorities have faced criticism for enforcing strict Islamic laws, particularly against women and girls, but some were delighted by the anniversary. A 28-year-old construction business owner in Kandahar expressed optimism about Afghanistan's future, calling for more countries to engage with the Taliban government. However, the celebrations were limited to specific areas, and the streets once bustling with foreign officials were now quiet.
