A descendant of Korean independence activist Kim Ku, lawmaker Kim Yung-man, commented on the controversial actor Hong Yeong, saying that the public's evaluation of her will change depending on her future actions. During a JTBC 'News Room' appearance on the 14th, Kim expressed that he was more troubled by the sins of the past generations than by her current behavior.

He urged her to "reflect on her future footsteps in terms of historical justice" and act accordingly. Kim noted that if she continues this way, the Korean public would undoubtedly give her a high historical assessment.

Kim emphasized that it's not the fact that someone is someone's child that determines their value, but rather "the actions they take after learning the truth about their ancestry." He stressed that Hong's future behavior will be more important than her existing actions. Hong Yeong, in a written apology on the 12th, expressed regret for having caused pain to her ancestors' memory and pledged to adopt a more cautious approach to history in the future.

The National Research Institute for Korean Language confirmed Hong's great-grandfather, An Sang-ho (1872-1927), a specialist doctor who graduated from Japan's Tokyo University and was involved in various pro-Japanese organizations, but noted that he was not listed in the institute's 'List of Collaborationists' because his actions did not meet the criteria for inclusion.
