Simpsons creator Matt Groening seemingly lets slip that Hit & Run is coming back

During a recent panel at Disney's D23 event, creator of The Simpsons Matt Groening hinted that a Hit & Run sequel may be on the way. When asked about the possibility of a follow-up to the 2003 GTA-style spin-off, Groening said, "I don't know [if] I'm speaking out of turn, I think the original game is coming back in some form." However, showrunner Matt Selman quickly interjected, "or not," attempting to downplay the comment.

While this statement does not provide concrete confirmation, it is the most significant information about Hit & Run in years. Fans have long been eager for a re-release, and the timing coincides with Radical Entertainment's rebranding as New Radical Games, a studio that now focuses on remastering classic titles and prominently features Hit & Run on its website.

Prior to this, Radical had reportedly begun work on Hit & Run 2 alongside a separate medieval-themed Simpsons game pitched by Groening himself, before the original publisher Vivendi declined a deal for five additional Simpsons games. This past year, Selman also commented on the potential for a remake or revival of Hit & Run, stating, "never say never" to the prospect.

As The Simpsons celebrated its 800th episode, Selman emphasized that "nothing is set in stone," acknowledging that both he and the show's team are aware of the game's enduring popularity among fans.
