Sean Payton Takes Shot at Falcons Fans in Broncos’ Preseason Win

Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton didn't mince words when criticizing Atlanta Falcons fans during his team's Friday night preseason victory over the Falcons. At halftime, ESPN's Cynthia asked Payton about his previous wins in Atlanta and his near-streak continuation, but he refuted the notion, noting the lack of fan support. "A lot of people dressed up as empty seats today," Payton remarked before concluding his interview.

The Broncos led 24-0 at halftime, capitalizing on various scoring plays, including a one-yard touchdown run by Adam Prentice, a Will Lutz field goal, a five-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham to Jaleel McLaughlin, and a 97-yard interception return by Jahdae Barron. Despite scoring only a field goal in the second half, the Falcons managed just one touchdown throughout the entire game.

Atlanta finished the preseason campaign 8-9, falling short of the playoffs due to the absence of starter Michael Penix Jr., who was sidelined with a partially torn ACL following an injury in Week 11. The team resorted to three different quarterbacks in the preseason game, none of whom showcased stellar performances. Cooper Rush threw for 62 yards but also had two interceptions, Jack Strand completed 6 of 12 passes for 50 yards, and Tua Tagovailoa, who had limited playing time, fumbled a snap and completed just three passes for 22 yards.

The Falcons' lone touchdown came from Strand, who ran in for a three-yard score. It's easy to see why the present fans might have booed the team at halftime following such a lackluster display. Even though it's the preseason, the Falcons' performance left much to be desired.
