Rotary Club donates phototherapy machine to Ussher Hospital

The Rotary Club of Accra Airport Enclave has presented a phototherapy machine to Ussher Hospital to assist in the treatment of newborns suffering from jaundice. This donation is part of the club's commitment to addressing community needs and making a lasting impact. Joyce Abankwa, the club's president for the 2026/2027 term, emphasized that Rotary has a long-standing reputation for helping communities.

The club came into action following a request from medical officials who highlighted the challenges of neonatal mortality at the hospital due to the lack of necessary equipment.

Abankwa also expressed the club's openness to supporting other priority needs at Ussher Hospital, urging hospital management to identify areas where additional assistance could be beneficial. She noted that while the specific needs of the hospital are yet to be fully understood, the Rotary Club is ready to collaborate once the hospital management outlines their requirements.

Dr. Philomina Bonsu, the Medical Superintendent of Ussher Hospital, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club for their intervention. She highlighted that the phototherapy machine will significantly bolster the hospital's maternal and child healthcare services. Dr. Bonsu further appealed to the public and other organizations to contribute resources to the facility, aiming to enhance the quality of care provided to patients and the community.
