Rookie Cade Klubnik leads 2 scoring drives after Geno Smith is scratched in Jets’ 24-16 loss to Bucs

In the preseason opener, the New York Jets lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a final score of 24-16. Rookie fourth-rounder Cade Klubnik stepped in for Geno Smith due to a sore foot, leading the Jets to score on two drives. Klubnik, who was competing for the No. 2 quarterback job, opened the game with a 12-yard pass to Mason Taylor, setting up a 27-yard field goal by Cade York.

In his second possession, Klubnik connected with first-rounder Omar Cooper Jr. on a 5-yard pass, followed by a 31-yard touchdown run from Braelon Allen, making the score 10-0. Klubnik finished the game with 5 of 7 for 56 yards.
