Rekha Gupta highlights Delhi’s role in Viksit Bharat vision, flags urban naxalism threat

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized Delhi's potential as a model for other cities during her second Independence Day speech at Chhatrasal Stadium. She stated that Delhi's development model could serve as a benchmark for the entire country, highlighting the capital's activity, attentiveness, and attractiveness. Gupta also acknowledged the partnership between the Centre and the Delhi government, praising the allocation of Rs 2,600 crore to undertake 61 new projects.

She described this funding as a strong cooperation between the Centre and the Delhi Government. Gupta noted that the people of Delhi had voted for change and that her administration was committed to delivering development at the grassroots level. She introduced a new Capital Development department, calling it a "game changer" and a "growth engine" for Delhi.

In health, Gupta reported that nine lakh beneficiaries were enrolled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, while three lakh senior citizens above 70 were covered under the Vaivandana Yojana. She also introduced the Anmol Yojana, which conducts 56 tests for every newborn child in Delhi. On education, Gupta announced the commencement of 75 new CM Shri schools and the installation of smart boards in 9,000 classrooms.

She also mentioned the provision of laptops for meritorious students and cycles for Class IX girls. Infrastructure-wise, Delhi was rapidly becoming India’s EV city, with over 4,000 electric buses in service. The city's Metro network was also being expanded. Environment and pollution were key priorities for the government, with 21% of the budget allocated as a Green Budget.

Women's welfare initiatives included the issuance of more than 18 lakh Pink Cards for free bus travel and the Durga Scheme, which would provide electric auto permits to 1,100 women. Gupta cautioned school children and youth against urban naxalism and urged them to channel their energy into nation-building.
