Record crowds at Indian missions in the UAE mark India's 80th Independence Day

Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE witnessed record-breaking crowds at Indian missions for the country's 80th Independence Day celebrations. The milestone anniversary, falling on a Saturday, attracted families and individuals in large numbers, eager to participate in the festivities. Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Dr Deepak Mittal, unfurled the national flag at the Embassy in Abu Dhabi, while Consul General Dr E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy hoisted the flag at the Consulate in Dubai.

Both diplomats read excerpts from the President's address to the nation. The Tiranga, or national flag, was raised from Indian missions across the world, following a coordinated sequence communicated via Twitter. The celebrations began with the rendition of Vande Mataram, honoring the song's 150th anniversary, followed by flag-hoisting ceremonies and the national anthem.

Prizes were awarded to quiz winners and other competition participants, who had prepared for the occasion by attending community competitions. Consul General Reddy emphasized the importance of improving passport and consular services, as well as strengthening India-UAE relations, during his speech. He also urged expats to contribute to India's development goals and promised closer engagement with the community while promoting India's culture and heritage in the UAE.
