Political landscape of NPP in the Western Region sees significant changes

The political landscape of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western Region has been significantly altered with Ignatius Kwasi Afrifa emerging as the new Regional Chairman. He won the leadership contest with 265 votes, representing over twice the votes of his opponent Abdul Ganiu, who received 102 votes. The margin of victory was 163 votes, with only one ballot being rejected.

Afrifa's victory marks a new chapter for the party's leadership in the Western Region, as the NPP faces substantial parliamentary losses and seeks to rebuild its structures ahead of the 2028 elections. Afrifa's support comes from Ignatius Asaah Mensah, who won the First Vice Chairman position with 204 votes. Mensah, with his local-government and party experience, including serving as District Chief Executive of Mpohor, brings valuable leadership to the new administration.

Francis Abeiku Yankah was elected as the Second Vice Chairman, having previously served as Municipal NADMO Director for Prestea Huni Valley. Kwasi Bonzoh's victory as Regional Secretary is notable, as he defeated incumbent Okatakyie Amankwa Afrifa with 211 votes. Bonzoh, a former Ellembelle District Chief Executive and NPP parliamentary candidate, will play a crucial role in the party's rebuilding efforts.

Amoabeng Owusu Acheampong secured the Organiser position, returning to the leadership structure after previously defeating Abdul Ganiyu in the 2022 regional elections. The Women's Organiser position went to Augustine Nketsiah, while Osagyefo Atiah Kwaw made a dramatic comeback in the youth wing, securing 197 votes. Emmanuel Essah Acquah emerged as the Regional Communication Officer, boasting an overwhelming 212 votes.

Nana Adjoa Appiah secured the Treasury position with 262 votes, reflecting her strong support within the party.
