Poland Holds Largest Military Parade Amid Major Defense Buildup

Poland held its largest military parade to date on Saturday, as part of a significant defense buildup aimed at strengthening NATO's eastern flank against Russia's ongoing war. The parade took place on Poland's Armed Forces Day, commemorating a historic victory over the Soviet Union in the 1920 Battle of Warsaw. The event featured over 60 military aircraft flying over Warsaw, followed by a ceremony where President Karol Nawrocki promoted 21 military officers.

The main parade involved nearly 2,000 troops and 300 vehicles marching along the Vistula River, accompanied by more than 300 military vehicles. This year's parade emphasized the importance of deterrence in the face of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Poland, the largest NATO defense spender relative to GDP, has invested heavily in new military equipment, including F-35 fighter jets and AH-64E Apache helicopters.

A naval parade with over 20 ships, including allied vessels, will take place near Gdynia and Gdańsk on Poland's northern Baltic Sea coast. President Nawrocki stressed that only those who are strong, well-prepared, and truly independent will avoid war. He also highlighted the importance of Poland's security over political disputes, stating that a falling missile would not differentiate between political affiliations, emphasizing that they are one nation.
