PM Modi Bets On Tech To Empower Youth With AI Skilling, Online Coaching

On Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the Indian government's commitment to promoting artificial intelligence (AI) in the country. At the Red Fort, Modi announced plans to train a million young people in AI skills over the next year, emphasizing the importance of cost, quality, and skill in developing AI capabilities. The government's focus on AI adoption comes as the sector is projected to contribute $1.7 trillion to India's GDP by 2035 and reach $126 billion by 2030.

Modi also highlighted the growing demand for AI-related jobs, which are expanding 75% faster than non-AI roles. He announced that the government would be addressing the financial burden of coaching classes for competitive examinations by providing free online coaching. The initiative aims to democratise education for competitive exams, potentially saving millions of crores of rupees spent on coaching classes.

In addition to AI and competitive exam coaching, Modi outlined a seven-point roadmap for India's development by 2047, known as "Sapta Dhara." The roadmap includes manufacturing power, agriculture and food processing, technology and innovation, Gati Shakti (infrastructure), defence power, a green and blue economy, and soft power. Manufacturing, technology, and innovation were identified as key sectors for India's growth.
