PKR National Congress begins with Anwar set to outline party direction

The PKR 2026 National Congress commenced today in Ayer Keroh, with party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim set to articulate the party's strategic agenda and direction. Under the theme "Revitalising Reformasi, Building Madani", the two-day congress aims to consolidate the party's stance amidst the shifting political climate. Anwar, who holds the position of prime minister, is slated to preside over the event.

The congress kicked off yesterday with the conferences of the party's two primary factions, Angkatan Muda Keadilan and Wanita PKR, officiated by deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar. Approximately 2,500 delegates and around 3,000 observers from various parts of the nation are anticipated to participate in the congress. The attendance of diplomatic representatives from several prominent global entities, including the United States, China, Japan, and Australia, alongside leaders from local political parties, significantly augments the congress's importance.

The debate sessions will concentrate on pressing matters that impact citizens, primarily encompassing the economy, education, and political stability, with 16 speakers representing the states and party wings. In addition to fortifying unity within the leadership, the congress also seeks to reaffirm PKR's dedication to integrity, social justice, and the advocacy of disadvantaged groups.

A Bill Kayong Award will be conferred upon five families in recognition of the sacrifices made by dedicated party members in their service until the end of their lives. The congress also involves multiple ministries and agencies, such as the National Registration Department and Immigration Department, which will furnish information and services to delegates and visitors.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's Karnival Rahmah Mega is also being held in conjunction with the congress and is accessible to the public. Anwar is expected to deliver his concluding remarks tomorrow before terminating the congress.
