Pemansuhan Auku ‘hadiah’ buat perjuangan mahasiswa, kata Adam Adli

Adam Adli, the PKR Communications Director and Deputy Minister of Higher Education, expressed his appreciation for the Malaysian government's decision to amend the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (Auku). This move, he says, is a significant acknowledgment of the struggle of Malaysian students over the years. Adli, who is not concerned about who gains or benefits from the change, emphasizes that the act symbolizes the government's commitment to reform.

He acknowledges the individuals who stood united in their quest for change, despite facing pressure and criticism. Adli states that these individuals, who were once fearful, are now courageous and vocal. He concludes by thanking the Prime Minister for this reward to the students' struggle across generations. Earlier, Anwar Ibrahim announced the government's intention to abolish Auku during his opening remarks at the PKR National Convention 2026.

He acknowledged that while some modifications were made to the act, many students remain unsatisfied with certain provisions and demand even more freedom. Prior to this, the Ministry of Higher Education announced that there were no plans to fully abolish Auku, even though the act had undergone several revisions since its introduction in 1971.
