Indonesia earthquake: 5 killed, buildings collapse as aftershocks rattle region

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off Indonesia's Flores island on Saturday, resulting in at least 38 fatalities according to the National Disaster Management Agency. Buildings collapsed, landslides blocked roads, and rescue operations were ongoing. A tsunami warning was issued but later canceled due to minimal sea level changes.

Around 2,000 residents were evacuated, and several hospitals evacuated patients as precautionary measures. The quake was followed by multiple aftershocks, with strong shaking felt across the region. The disaster exposed Indonesia's vulnerability to earthquakes and tsunamis, given its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
