Patchy internet, bumper harvest for Pahang cucumber farmers

Aiman Uyob and his father Uyob Ahmad, a father-son duo in Pahang, have turned their remote settlement into a thriving cucumber farming venture, using online learning to master fertigation farming. After harvesting approximately 14,000kg of cucumbers in their first crop, the pair transported the produce from Kampung Gusai to Selayang via boat, lorry, and eventually the internet-connected wholesale market.

The cucumbers, known as "timun tua," grow in just 50 to 60 days and fetch a price of around RM5 per kilogram. The internet connection allowed Aiman to learn about fertigation through video calls, while his father's practical experience in farming complemented the knowledge. With royal endorsement from the Sultan of Pahang, the pair plans to expand their operations, aiming to increase production and explore new markets.
