Patchy internet, bumper harvest for Pahang cucumber farmers

Aiman Uyob and his father Uyob Ahmad have transformed their remote Pahang village into a successful cucumber farming operation. Despite the lack of internet access, Aiman learned fertigation farming techniques through video calls from a friend in another village. This farming method involves delivering fertiliser through irrigation water, allowing for efficient use of limited space and faster crop growth.

The father and son duo harvest about 14,000kg of cucumbers per crop, which fetches around RM5 per kilogram at wholesale markets. They transport their produce from the village to a river jetty and then by lorry to Selayang in Selangor. Aiman, who previously worked in Kuala Lumpur, returned to the village to manage their banana plantation but quickly realized the income potential of cucumbers.

Their crop, known as "timun tua," matures within 50 to 60 days and has a consistent demand. The pair are now expanding their production, hoping to double their harvest in the future.
