Palakkad railway division celebrates Independence Day

The Palakkad Railway Division marked its 80th Independence Day on Saturday with a series of events held at the Divisional Railway Manager's office in Olavakode. Divisional Railway Manager Madhukar Roat unfurled the national flag and conducted the guard of honor. Jerin G. Anand, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, along with officers and staff, participated in the function.

The day was filled with cultural programs by students, emphasizing India's rich heritage, diversity, and unity. Similar celebrations took place at key railway stations across the Palakkad division. Mr. Roat honored the nation's freedom fighters and emphasized the responsibility that comes with independence to maintain discipline, integrity, compassion, and public service.

The division has shown commendable performance, securing the second rank among 69 railway divisions nationwide, a position it has held since the rankings were introduced. Revenue from passenger services has surpassed ₹400 crore. Mr. Roat also highlighted the division's focus on strengthening freight operations, passenger amenities, digital ticketing, and grievance redressal.

For the third year in a row, the Palakkad Railway Division received the Rail Madad Shield for its outstanding performance in resolving passenger grievances. Mr. Roat further discussed infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing sectional speed, ensuring track safety, eliminating level crossings, and revamping stations under the Amrit Bharat scheme.

Currently, 16 stations within the division are part of this redevelopment initiative, with several already inaugurated or completed. Safety remains the division's paramount concern, and Mr. Roat acknowledged the Railway Protection Force's initiatives, including Meri Saheli, Operation Amanat, Operation Nanhe Fariste, and Operation Dignity.

Mr. Roat encouraged railway personnel to strive towards making the division safer, more punctual, passenger-friendly, sustainable, and efficient.
