The Osun State Police Command has arrested a police officer following an accidental discharge of tear gas during Saturday’s governorship election, sparking panic in Modakeke Ward 10, Ife East Local Government Area. The command clarified that the incident occurred at a Registration Area Centre (RAC) rather than a voting centre, attributing it to the officer's personal negligence.

The officer, who was attempting to relieve himself, was promptly taken into custody, with disciplinary proceedings initiated. The command strongly condemned the breach, stating that the action was highly condemnable and fell short of the expected standards for a police officer. They emphasized that security personnel should not bear arms or tactical gear within a designated radius of voting points.

The police reassured the public that the officer involved will face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the Force’s regulations, and the Nigeria Police Force Osun State Command remains committed to maintaining peace and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
