NSIB to release final Joshua accident report – DG

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) intends to publish its conclusive report on the tragic road accident involving former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua within the next 30 to 60 days, as reported by Saturday PUNCH. Director-General of the NSIB, Alex Badeh Jr., announced this revelation during a virtual conversation with transport journalists on Friday.

Badeh disclosed that the bureau had concluded its investigation and forwarded its findings to the relevant stakeholders for evaluation, as mandated by the legal framework governing accident investigations. The NSIB's protocol necessitates the dissemination of preliminary reports to pertinent stakeholders prior to the release of a finalized document to the public.

The accident, which occurred on December 29, 2025, in the Makun area of Ogun State along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulted in the loss of two team members of Joshua, Sina Ghami and Kevin "Latif" Ayodele, while Joshua himself sustained minor injuries. During the investigation, the NSIB encountered a lack of cooperation from the Nigeria Police Force, although some assistance was provided.

Badeh expressed a desire for more cooperation from the police and other pertinent agencies. The NSIB diverges from criminal investigation approaches, focusing on recommendations for preventing future accidents rather than assigning blame. Badeh also highlighted the NSIB's ongoing efforts to enhance its relationship with law enforcement and other agencies, including the recent appointment of Nuhu Ribadu, a former police officer, as National Security Adviser.

The bureau is currently awaiting statutory funding from several transport sector agencies, including a 3% contribution from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and a 6% contribution from the Nigerian Railway Corporation, while the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has consistently met its financial obligations.

Joshua made a triumphant return to the ring last month, defeating Kristian Prenga by a second-round knockout, dedicating the victory to the memory of Ghami and Ayodele.
