No Malaysians reported missing in Flores earthquake

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Flores Island in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province early today, prompting about 2,000 residents to evacuate or flee to safety. No Malaysians have been reported affected by the disaster, according to the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta. The embassy contacted Malaysians, including tourists, who informed it of their locations in the region.

The embassy is working closely with the Indonesian foreign ministry to obtain the latest updates on the situation. The earthquake, which struck at 4.58am local time, had its epicenter 30km offshore from Mbay at a depth of 15km.

A tsunami warning was initially issued but was later lifted after monitoring sea levels at 7.31am. The National Disaster Management Agency reported the death toll from the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks had risen to 20, with six injured and two still trapped in debris.
