‘Nigeria humanitarian funding rises $17.9m in two months’

In just two months, humanitarian funding for Nigeria's crisis surged by $17.9 million, according to the latest data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). This increase brought Nigeria's coverage rate above that of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to become the highest-funded country among the eight crisis-affected nations tracked by OCHA in West and Central Africa.

As of August 10, 2026, Nigeria had received a total of $265.2 million in humanitarian funding, up from $247.3 million as of June 22, 2026. The funding consisted of $257.9 million allocated to Nigeria's Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) and $7.3 million from external sources. This marked a 10.8% increase in HNRP funding and a rise in the country's HNRP coverage rate to 50% of its $516.4 million 2026 requirement, up from 47% previously recorded.
