Newly elected Western Regional NPP Secretary vows to win 11 seats in 2028

In a bold proclamation that has sent political shockwaves across the Western Region, Bonzo Kwasi, the newly appointed Western Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a warning to the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC). Amidst his victory speech, following a surprising electoral victory that saw him defeat the incumbent, Okatakyie Amankwa Afrifa by a margin of 211 votes, Mr. Kwasi declared that the political landscape is set to change.

He declared, "The NDC should watch out. We are here to energize the base." Mr. Kwasi did not gloss over the state of the party he was charged with revamping, noting that it had been weakened by a 2024 electoral loss. "The party was not in good shape," he stated, emphasizing the need to restore it to a stronger position. He added, “It is unpardonable that a great party like ours has only two seats out of seventeen in the region.

That is a challenge to us. And I m going to work with my team to make sure that we move from two to at least eleven in 2028. That is our target.” Mr. Kwasi brings a wealth of political experience to his new role, having campaigned in parliamentary elections four times in Ellemebele and serving as District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle.

His combination of electoral combat experience and administrative skills is seen as a remedy to rejuvenate the NPP's standing in a region that has traditionally favored the NDC. The party's goal of securing 11 out of 17 parliamentary seats in the region is a significant shift, requiring Mr. Kwasi to address ethnic and party divisions, re-engage disaffected supporters, and develop a message that appeals to the youth and fishing communities.

The ruling NDC has not yet made an official comment, but the new Regional Secretary’s bold move has set the stage for increased political contention in the Western Region ahead of the 2028 elections.
