Eskom restoring power to Brits, Hennops and surrounding areas

Eskom, the power utility, is working to restore electricity supply to Brits, Hennops, and the surrounding areas, which have been without power since Thursday. The disruption occurred after a tailing dam belonging to Samancor Chrome's Dikwena Chrome in Brits collapsed, causing flooding and damage to Eskom's infrastructure. Ezekiel Baruti, the Eskom spokesperson for North West, states that Eskom is working with the mine to access the affected poles for technical teams to begin repair work.

However, the muddy and slippery conditions are slowing down the restoration process. The exact time for restoration remains unknown, but it could take several hours. Samancor Chrome spokesperson Sunel Pretorius confirms that the incident is under investigation and no injuries have been reported. They are cooperating with authorities and committed to protecting the health and safety of their people and the environment.

Cleanup and repair operations have already begun, and additional measures will be implemented once the investigation is complete.
