N. Korean leader pays tribute to Soviet soldiers amid deepening Russia ties

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un honored Soviet soldiers during an event marking the 81st anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule, according to state media. He visited the Liberation Tower in Pyongyang on Friday, a day before the commemoration. Before the event, the North Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim placed a wreath with the inscription, "We will not forget the feats of the martyrs of the Soviet Army."

Kim emphasized that the historical connections and shared blood ties between North Korea and Russia form the foundation and driving force behind their bilateral relations, according to an English dispatch. He further stated that this enduring friendship and unity would be passed down from generation to generation. This visit marked the third time Kim had honored the Liberation Tower on Liberation Day.
