My govt never sidelined Sabah and Sarawak’s demands, says PM

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that his government has never disregarded the demands of Sabah and Sarawak. Despite the administration's imperfections, Anwar affirmed that his government has treated Sabah and Sarawak's demands, including those outlined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), as a national priority. The PKR president clarified that the party never perceived MA63 as a concern solely for Sabah and Sarawak, but rather as an essential aspect of the nation's progress.

Speaking at the party's congress, Anwar stressed the importance of harmonious collaboration between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak, highlighting that all three regions must advance together for the country's prosperity. Anwar also acknowledged that while this approach may not garner additional votes in elections, as voters in the peninsula typically do not consider such matters, it is still a just and equitable course of action.

Furthermore, he acknowledged that there is still room for improvement in implementing MA63 demands, noting that about 13 matters out of the 18 have been resolved, five on an interim basis, two remain unresolved with policy decisions made, four are still under discussion, and five have been referred to the highest levels in Putrajaya for consideration.
