Multiple people injured in shooting at Virginia State University

Multiple individuals were injured in a shooting at Virginia State University on Saturday morning, with several suspects still at large, police reported. The campus, located approximately 20 miles south of Richmond, was placed on lockdown as police arrived on the scene. The Virginia State University police department stated that a shooting had occurred near the Quad Annexes, resulting in multiple victims being transported to nearby hospitals.

The university confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening. Local news outlet WTVR reported that five people were injured, according to local authorities. Chesterfield police informed WTVR that they were dispatched to the university dormitories at 1:30am. As of Saturday morning, over 300 mass shootings had been reported across the US in 2023, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines mass shootings as incidents involving at least four victims who are injured or killed.
