Motac cracks down on unlicensed tourism operators in KL, issues 15 notices

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 15 — The Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) conducted a two-day enforcement operation around the capital city to crack down on unlicensed tourism operators. During the operation, Motac issued 15 inspection notices for various infractions under the Tourism Industry Act 1992. Nine of these notices were issued to businesses operating without a valid license, while three tourist locations, nine business premises, and three individuals were inspected.

Motac collaborated with the Kuala Lumpur Tourist Guide Association (KLTGA) to identify individuals suspected of providing tourist guide services without proper authorization. Enforcement actions were taken against those found operating without valid licenses, as well as for other violations such as using private or unlicensed vehicles for tourist transport, breaching license conditions, and dealing with unlicensed operators.

Any private or unlicensed vehicles used for tourist transport identified during the operation will be dealt with by the Land Public Transport Agency and Road Transport Department. Motac emphasized that individuals, entities, and owners involved in such activities could face legal consequences, including fines of up to RM500,000, imprisonment for up to 10 years, or both.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to enforcing the law effectively and fairly, aligning with the Malaysia Madani vision. The public and industry players are encouraged to report any suspected violations of tourism laws and regulations through the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA).
