Matiang’i rules out engaging Oburu in political confrontation

Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i has dismissed the prospect of engaging in a political confrontation with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Oginga. Speaking in a video on social media, Matiang’i stated that he would not respond to all of Oburu’s comments due to the veteran politician’s advanced age. Describing Oburu as being nearly his father’s age, Matiang’i said his comments afforded him a "sage license" that allowed him to make statements without facing a response.

Observing that Oburu possesses the ability to say just about anything, Matiang’i emphasized that he had no problem with whatever the ODM leader says. He also stressed that Oburu was not a divine or prophetic figure, but simply Oburu. This response comes amid growing political exchanges between the two parties as they prepare for the 2027 General Election.

Oburu had recently defended his remarks suggesting that President William Ruto occasionally employ "benevolent dictatorship" to make difficult decisions, a term that critics interpreted as endorsing authoritarian leadership.
