Makafui Woanyah retains NPP Volta Regional Chairmanship

Makafui Kofi Woanyah has been re-elected as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Volta Regional Chairman, securing another term after winning the party’s regional executive elections. The contest between Mr Woanyah and his challenger, Joseph Wallace Homenya, saw Mr Woanyah emerge victorious by a margin of 21 votes. Provisional results showed that Mr Woanyah received 169 votes, while Mr Homenya garnered 148 votes.

The election garnered significant attention within the party, with supporters of Mr Woanyah highlighting his contributions to the development of the NPP’s structures and electoral activities in the Volta Region as factors that influenced the outcome. Conversely, Mr Homenya’s supporters advocated for a change in leadership and a new approach to rebuild the party's support base, arguing that fresh leadership could help unite the party, enhance its appeal, and attract more members ahead of upcoming elections.

With his re-election, Mr Woanyah will continue to lead the NPP’s affairs in the Volta Region as the party endeavors to restructure its organization and enhance its electoral performance.
