Mainz and Union Berlin end pre-season with games against Premier League teams

Mainz 05 and Union Berlin concluded their pre-season with competitive matches against Premier League clubs, Bournemouth and Ipswich Town respectively. Mainz secured a victory against Europa League participants Bournemouth, while Union Berlin faced a setback at home to Ipswich Town.

Sheraldo Becker and William Bøving were the scorers for Mainz in their 4-0 triumph over Bournemouth at Mewa Arena. Last season's Conference League participants demonstrated their form by following their impressive 4-0 win over Paris FC with another dominant performance against Ipswich Town.

Union Berlin opened the scoring against Ipswich City through Zeno Van Den Bosch within the first ten minutes. However, the Premier League newcomers responded with a comeback, ultimately winning 4-2. Josip Juranovic scored Union Berlin's second goal after the restart. Mainz will next face newly-promoted Paderborn when the Bundesliga season begins in two weeks, while Union Berlin will host Eintracht Frankfurt, who suffered a 7-0 defeat to Brentford earlier in the day.

All four teams are set to commence their season the following week, with the first round of the DFB-Pokal set to commence alongside.
