Mahatma Gandhi Temple sees crowd surge for 80th Independence Day celebrations

On Saturday, August 15, 2026, the 80th Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotic fervour at the Mahatma Gandhi Temple in Shanti Nagar, Srikakulam district. Attendees from various backgrounds, including children from nearby schools and colleges, paid homage to the freedom fighters whose statues were unveiled at the temple in 2022.

The event was organised by the Gandhi Mandiram-Freedom Fighters Smruthi Vanam, a committee comprising Surangi Mohana Rao, Jami Bhimashankar, M.V.S.S. Sastry, and other dedicated members.

Jami Bhimashankar, the convener of the committee, shared that the association had planned an additional initiative to install a 'Jai-Jawan-Jai Kisan' statue, symbolising the contributions of soldiers and farmers to society and the nation. The unveiling of this statue was expected to take place soon, as work on the premises was progressing rapidly.
