Kenyan starlet Doreen Cherop targets repeat glory at Absa Run Your City Tshwane 10km

Kenyan athlete Doreen Cherop aims to repeat her South African triumph at the upcoming Absa Run Your City Tshwane 10km race. The 22-year-old secured her first international 10km win at the Absa Durban 10K last month by outpacing pre-race favorite Brenda Jepchirchir. Jepchirchir had been leading for most of the race, but Cherop held steady and made her move around the 7km mark.

The finishing kick proved decisive, as Cherop finished second at 30:43, while Jepchirchir settled for second place at 30:52. Cherop had initially set her sights on a podium finish in Durban but was caught off guard by her victory. She attributes her success to her belief in her training. This win served as Cherop's international debut in the 10km distance and prepared her for the challenges ahead in Tshwane.

While expected to be a strong contender, Cherop remains humble and cautious, emphasizing her need for more experience in running the 10km distance. Stillwater Sports managing director Michael Meyer anticipates another thrilling women's race in Tshwane, given Cherop's impressive performance in Durban. Meyer is confident that Cherop's return will deliver yet another exciting battle for the podium in the Absa Run Your City Series.
