KDMC Forms Probe Panel Over Alleged Pregnancy Test On Minor At Shastrinagar Hospital

The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has established an inquiry panel in response to allegations that doctors at the municipal Shastrinagar Hospital performed a pregnancy test on a minor girl without her parents' consent. The BJP corporator Deepesh Mhatre brought the issue to light, prompting the KDMC Deputy Commissioner for Medical and Health, Prasad Borkar, to form a committee to investigate the matter.

The panel, consisting of Dr Deepa Shukla, KDMC Medical Health Officer, Dr Sadiya Pinjari, Chief Medical Officer of Shastrinagar Hospital, and Dr Sapna Ramole, Chief Medical Officer of Vasant Valley Maternity Home, is mandated to submit a report to the Municipal Commissioner within seven days. The investigation will examine the entire sequence of events, including the girl's admission to the hospital, the decision to conduct the pregnancy test, the procedures followed by hospital staff, and the contradictory results obtained from both the municipal hospital and a private laboratory.

The medical department will review the testing process and conflicting results, aiming to determine the cause of the discrepancy between the test outcomes. The hospital has defended its actions, claiming the girl's age was recorded as 18 years in the admission register, thereby negating the need for parental consent. However, the BJP corporator insists that the girl was a minor, and doctors reportedly informed the local police before the examination, suggesting they were aware of her actual age.

Mhatre has presented concrete information supporting his claim. The committee's findings will likely clarify whether proper medical protocols were followed, if the girl's age was incorrectly recorded, and why the contradictory pregnancy test reports were generated.
