KDM withdraws support for GRS, eyes new 'Borneo Bloc' with Sabah parties

Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) has terminated its support for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-led state government in Malaysia. The decision was made by the party’s supreme council during its annual meeting, according to Sinar Harian. KDM acting president Priscella Peter addressed the move during a press conference in Papar, emphasizing that it was not made hastily.

The decision aims to demonstrate the party’s direction to the public and its grassroots supporters, as well as to showcase the party’s commitment beyond election periods. This stance emerged following the last state election, which had a significant impact on KDM’s grassroots. The announcement follows a week of discussions between Warisan president Shafie Apdal and KDM and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku regarding a potential pact for the 16th general election.

While no agreement has been finalized, Warisan promises to safeguard Sabah’s rights and interests if a pact is reached. KDM, which contested alone in the November 2025 state election, secured just one seat, Paginatan, before aligning with the GRS administration led by chief minister Hajiji Noor.
