India wins toss and opts to bat in 1st test against Sri Lanka

India has chosen to bat first in the opening cricket test against Sri Lanka, after winning the toss on Saturday at Galle International Stadium in Sri Lanka. The first annual payment for this one-year subscription stands at $205.00 plus GST. Both sides are aiming for crucial points throughout the two-test series as they fight for a spot in the 2027 World Test Championship final.

India currently sits in fifth place in the standings, while Sri Lanka holds the sixth position. Sri Lanka has fielded two fast bowlers and four spinners, including captain Dhananjaya de Silva and left-arm spinner Sonal Dinusha, with 25-year-old off-spinner Keshara Nuwantha making his Test debut. India, on the other hand, has opted for three spinners and two pacers, mirroring the same bowling lineup used in their recent match against Afghanistan in June.

This includes three left-arm spinners in Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Manav Suthar. Devdutt Paddikal has replaced Sai Sudharsan, who is unable to participate due to a stress fracture injury. Jasprit Bumrah, the pacer, is also out of the series due to a knee injury. This test marks India's 600th Test match, coinciding with the country's 80th Independence Day celebration.

The Galle International Stadium is hosting its 50th Test match. The pitch is expected to favor batsmen during the first two days, with spin becoming more prominent as the game progresses.
