India Independence Day 2026: Modi sets out vision for developed India by 2047

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the occasion of India's 80th Independence Day, held at the Red Fort. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of self-reliance in transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, a target he proudly referred to as Viksit Bharat. Modi highlighted various sectors that have experienced significant growth over the past 12 years, including defence production, Khadi and village industries, electronics manufacturing, modern railway coach production, and mobile phone production.

Additionally, he pointed to advancements in digital technology and innovation, with the number of internet users nearly quadrupling, patent grants increasing fourfold, and digital transactions growing 100-fold.

Modi also addressed the government's efforts to improve public amenities and governance, noting the elimination of thousands of compliance requirements and the repeal of hundreds of outdated laws. He stressed the importance of moving beyond laws from the previous century, as India was undergoing a major transformation in governance.

The Prime Minister highlighted the expansion of metro networks and public transport, describing the pace and scale of these changes as a transformation not witnessed since India's independence, largely achieved over the past decade.

Expressing confidence in India's ability to achieve the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, Modi urged citizens to set ambitious goals and work collectively towards achieving Viksit Bharat. He emphasized that nations achieve greatness when driven by dreams, determination, and inherent strength, calling on Indians to broaden their vision beyond small dreams.

Modi concluded his speech by hoisting the National Flag at the Red Fort, accompanied by a 21-gun salute, and praising the Indian Armed Forces, particularly the INS Vikrant, as a symbol of self-reliance.
