I’m not against Enyimba Economic City project — Otti

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has expressed his support for the Enyimba Economic City project, but emphasized the need for transparency and proper execution of processes. During a meeting with the reconstituted Board of the Enyimba Economic City Development Company, Otti acknowledged that his administration had concerns regarding the acquisition of land and the lack of relevant documentation.

He revealed that the state had initially sought to retain about 1,000 hectares for the Abia Industrial and Innovation Park, but the company later reneged on the agreement, asking for the entire land to be handed over to the Federal Government. Otti stated that the government had revoked the entire Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) and reserved 1,000 hectares for the project.

He also expressed disappointment over claims that the government was entitled to only six percent equity in the company, despite the significant land size involved. Otti urged investors to ensure proper compensation of affected communities and reach appropriate agreements before acquiring land for the project. He reiterated his administration's commitment to supporting genuine investments while stressing the importance of transparency, fairness, and accountability in dealing with public assets.
