If you’re naughty, we will know it, mayor warns as Kota Kinabalu adds 1,600 CCTV cameras to catch vandals

Kota Kinabalu city authorities are set to install 1,600 CCTV cameras across the city in an effort to combat vandalism and enhance public security, according to Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah. The project was launched alongside the unveiling of the "Remembering Australia Place" mural, which symbolizes the historical ties between Australia and Sabah.

Sabin emphasized that the expanded surveillance would also protect important public assets, such as the mural. The mural, created by local artists and with support from the Australian High Commission, aims to celebrate the friendship between Australia and Sabah while providing educational resources for visitors. Sabin also announced the upcoming Kota Kinabalu International Mayors' Dialogue in October, highlighting the city's commitment to international cooperation on various urban issues.

Australian participation in the dialogue was welcomed, with hopes that it would strengthen relationships between Kota Kinabalu and Australian cities. Darul Marhum's Datuk Chan Foong Hin expressed optimism that the mural would attract more Australian tourists to Sabah, and suggested restoring direct flights between the two nations.
