Hyderabad marks Independence Day with flags, festivities and illuminated landmarks

Hyderabad celebrated the 80th Independence Day on Saturday with flag-raising ceremonies, patriotic songs, tricolour decorations, and crowds gathering at landmarks throughout the city. Neighbourhood flag-raising events took place, while many residents watched the live broadcast of celebrations at the Red Fort in Delhi and the state-level festivities at Golconda Fort.

People bought paper flags and tricolour pins, wearing them as part of the festivities. Patriotic songs echoed through residential colonies, and many households displayed the national flag on balconies and rooftops. Flag-raising ceremonies were held at government institutions, community halls, and other establishments across the city.

At Gandhi Hospital, Osmania General Hospital, and Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Independence Day celebrations were held. Around 1,300 students from 19 schools participated in the celebrations at Rashtrapati Nilayam, which commenced with a Tiranga rally and included cultural performances. Throughout the day, residents flocked to malls, shopping areas, and restaurants.

By evening, notable landmarks were illuminated in the colours of the national flag, drawing crowds who came to take photographs and capture the visual spectacle. The Telangana Secretariat was a popular attraction, with large crowds gathering to photograph the building adorned in the tricolour. Charminar also saw a festive atmosphere, with increasing numbers of visitors drawn to the illuminated monument.
