H.S. FOOTBALL: Bulldogs ‘feeling good’ after first week of practice

Tri-Valley Bulldogs head coach Jeff Sampson is optimistic as his team prepares for a fourth consecutive District 11 title chase. With a strong senior class leading the pack, Sampson believes the early practices are vital in molding the younger players and unifying the team. The Bulldogs are utilizing two-a-day practices to speed up their conditioning and focus on strategic aspects of the game.

The senior leadership on the team includes quarterback Trey Porter, wide receivers Doyle Flory and Lukas Schwartz, and fullback Donovan Keeth. Porter is expected to start at quarterback for the first time this season, supported by junior running back Parker Hatter and senior tight end Lukas Schwartz. Offensively, Porter's pass game will benefit from the combined talents of Schwartz and Flory, who serve as deep threats, while Parker and Keeth provide the running game with speed and power.

Defensively, Schwartz and Keeth are focused on pressuring the quarterback and stopping the run, while Porter takes on the role of cornerback and deep threat. Flory and Schwartz have been instrumental in introducing the defensive coverages to the younger players and ensuring everyone is familiar with the team's playbook and concepts. This unity and cohesion were evident as the team felt positive after their first week of practice.

Tri-Valley's upcoming challenges include facing Pine Grove and Executive Education in scrimmage games on Aug. 22 before hosting Line Mountain at home on Aug. 28. The team's hard work and dedication during these early practices will undoubtedly pay off, allowing them to compete at a high level throughout the season.
