First ‘New Simpsons Movie’ Footage Features Baseball Shenanigans

At D23, Disney unveiled the initial footage from "The New Simpsons Movie," set to hit theaters in September of next year. The preview was undoubtedly amusing, echoing the beloved "Homer at the Bat" episode from Season 3's "The Natural." The new movie footage showcased Homer and the gang at a baseball game, with a runaway ball causing a town-wide chase.

The ball ends up in Moe's Tavern, where pickled eggs are mistaken for it. The chase continues through an emergency room, down the street, and into the Duff Brewery, with the ball eventually landing in a massive tank of beer. Homer chases the ball through a refinery, getting ejected out of a smokestack. The ball lands back in the baseball stadium, picked up casually by Bart, eliciting an enraged "D'oh!" from Homer and everyone who chased it.

The preview consisted mostly of storyboards in color, accompanied by temporary music, including a memorable cue from Jan De Bont's "Speed." The sequel was announced in September 2025 with the tagline "Homer's coming back for seconds." By the time of its release, "The Simpsons" will have completed its 39th season. The original "Simpsons Movie" premiered on July 21, 2007, grossing $536.7 million globally.

In that film, Bart famously wrote on the chalkboard in the iconic opening gag that he would not wait 20 years to make another movie. Unfortunately, he waited 20 years and some change. Now, Bart is back! "The New Simpsons Movie" is scheduled to release on September 3, 2027.
