Federal govt aims to cut Terengganu poor households to 20,000 by year-end

KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 15 — Federal authorities are targeting to slash the count of impoverished households in Terengganu to 20,000 by December. Deputy Director-General of the Strategic Development, Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) JPM, Datuk Norashiken Ishak, disclosed that as of August 13, Terengganu's poor households numbered 24,100, down from 26,800 in early July.

This initiative stems from collaborative efforts between the Terengganu ICU JPM and other relevant agencies aimed at boosting earnings, creating economic prospects, and stabilizing the lives of eKasih beneficiaries, she explained to reporters. Addressing the media following a program unveiling in Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus zones, Norashiken highlighted that her team has also bolstered the welfare of the B40 populace, specifically eKasih participants, through 310 Rumah Kasih Ihsan projects implemented this year, with a combined allocation of RM18.44 million.

These projects comprise 161 new constructions, 146 renovations, and three new stilt house builds. Norashiken affirmed that the Madani Government remains committed to continuing these efforts to enhance people's welfare. The Program Jelajah Kesejahteraan Rakyat 2026, held today, brought together services and interventions from multiple agencies to assist the community, particularly eKasih households, by addressing their needs.

With 4,000 attendees, including 700 eKasih participants, and 18 government service booths offering advisories, eligibility checks, and tailored assistance, the event underscored the Madani Government's dedication to the well-being of its citizens.
