Cyclist Finlay Tarling's team withdraws from Volta a Portugal after his death

Finlay Tarling, a 19-year-old British cyclist, passed away after an accident during the eighth stage of the Volta a Portugal. The Welshman's team, NSN Development, has withdrawn from the race, with the statement being released via TNT commentator Jez Cox during stage nine. Tarling's father, Michael, expressed gratitude for the messages of support and photos of his son, describing the situation as both heartbreaking and heartwarming.

The race resumed on Saturday, with riders wearing black armbands and observing a minute's silence before setting off. Tarling was one of three riders at the back of the race when his bike collided with a support vehicle on the 166.8km route from Melgaco to Fafe. The incident occurred when Tarling cut across the lane to take a corner, causing the collision.

The GNR, Portugal's security force, is investigating the cause of the accident and is not expecting any charges against the driver. NSN Development, the team Tarling represented, will continue to race in the Czech Tour and the Arctic Race of Norway, honoring Tarling's memory and the legacy of cycling.
