CM Punjab Unveils Province-Wide Expansion of Safe Smart Cities Project

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of Punjab has unveiled an ambitious plan to extend the Safe Smart Cities project across the entire province. This expansion will encompass every tehsil and union council, enhancing emergency response capabilities and public safety. At the inauguration of the Punjab Integrated Safe City Network on Independence Day, the CM emphasized that all districts now boast Safe City networks, leveraging technology, AI, surveillance, and predictive policing for robust security monitoring.

The province can now be observed through a unified system, and citizens can access assistance via the emergency helpline 15. The CM further announced the installation of an additional 1,500 panic buttons at police stations and prominent public venues, with a specific focus on bolstering security for women and children. The Virtual Police Station has already assisted 1.1 million women, while the Child Safety App has resolved 100,000 cases and facilitated reunions for 80,000 children.

Technology's role in emergency response was highlighted, citing an instance where a woman in Bhakkar utilized a panic button to secure immediate assistance for her husband after a cardiac event. The government aims to establish a comprehensive Safe City network across Punjab, ensuring that even smaller communities and towns benefit from the advanced security and emergency response systems now available in districts.
