CBI arrests 6 railway officials in bribery cases in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended six railway officials in three bribery cases across Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Allegations include demanding and accepting bribes to expedite the processing of bills and other official duties. Cash and valuables were seized during searches of the accused's residences and offices.

Case 1: Three North Western Railway officials were arrested in Jaipur. An Office Superintendent was accused of soliciting and receiving illegal gratification from a private company in return for favoring their billing processes. Assistance came from an Assistant Financial Advisor, a Senior Section Officer, and a private company employee from Navi Mumbai. Incriminating documents, devices, and Rs 9 lakh in cash were taken during the raids.

Case 2: Two North Western Railway officials were apprehended in Bikaner. A Senior Section Officer was accused of demanding and accepting illegal gratification from a private company in Kolkata for expediting work for a Bikaner division company. The CBI's arrest of the Senior Section Officer and an Account Assistant, along with an employee from the Kolkata-based firm, followed a search in Bikaner and Jaipur.

Case 3: In Bhilai, a Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer from the South East Central Railway was arrested for allegedly demanding Rs 2 lakh from a complainant to clear pending bills. Negotiations reduced the amount to Rs 1 lakh. The CBI arrested the officer and a tout who allegedly acted on his instructions. Searches led to the seizure of Rs 77 lakh in cash and jewelry worth Rs 14 lakh.
