Bonnie Tyler fans line the streets of a Welsh village as her coffin is brought home

Hundreds of devoted fans gathered in a Welsh seaside village on Saturday to pay their final respects to the late singer Bonnie Tyler as her coffin was transported home. The Grammy-nominated Welsh pop star, known worldwide for her 1983 hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart," passed away last month in a hospital in Portugal at the age of 75.

Born Gaynor Hopkins, Tyler grew up in a coal miner's family in Skewen, a town about 7 miles outside Swansea. She rose to fame with her powerful voice and three Grammy nominations, representing Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 when she placed 19th. Queen Elizabeth II awarded her the Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2022 for her contributions to music.

Tyler's hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart" topped the charts in both Britain and the United States and has garnered over 1 billion streams, bolstered by real eclipses in 2017, 2024, and the recent solar eclipse. Other beloved songs include "It's a Heartache" and "Holding Out For a Hero" from the film "Footloose." A commemorative service for Tyler's family and friends is scheduled for Monday at a church in Swansea, followed by her final journey through her hometown of Skewen.
