Benue attacks: Govt failed Otukpo-Nobi, Efeyi-Ugboju – Peter Obi

Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has expressed his disappointment with the federal government's failure to protect the citizens of Otukpo-Nobi and Efeyi-Ugboju in Benue State. In a post shared on his verified X account, Obi condemned the recent terrorist attack that resulted in the loss of several lives and injuries to many others.

He emphasized the importance of the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its people, particularly in areas plagued by insecurity.

Obi visited the affected communities on Friday to offer his condolences to the victims and express his solidarity with the survivors. He visited Otukpo-Nobi, where over ten people were killed or went missing, and Efeyi-Ugboju, where over thirteen individuals were reported to have been killed, along with numerous others injured. During his visit, he joined the community in a prayer for the departed souls and paid respects at the mass burial site.

Additionally, he visited the local hospital to offer support to the injured and pray for their swift recovery.

In his post, Obi reminded the government of its primary responsibility to safeguard the lives and well-being of its citizens. He asserted that when the government fails to fulfill this duty, as it did in the case of Otukpo-Nobi, Efeyi-Ugboju, and other troubled regions, it must be held accountable for its shortcomings. The presidential candidate concluded his statement by expressing his prayers for the departed and wished for their eternal peace.
