Atiku, Obi, others’ summit shifted to August 31

The opposition political parties' summit, organized by the G-100, has been moved from August 18 to August 31, 2026. This adjustment allows for further consultations following the National Peace Summit. The summit aims to unite the parties and present a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 election.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the presidential candidates of the African Democratic Congress and the Nigeria Democratic Congress, are among the participants. The G-100 emphasized that a fragmented opposition would struggle against Tinubu, and urged the parties to cooperate for a meaningful outcome. The rescheduling was decided after consultations with six opposition parties and minority caucus members of the House of Representatives, all of whom expressed serious engagement and energy in the discussions.

While differences among the parties were acknowledged, the group noted a willingness to listen and explore areas of cooperation. Further details on the summit's agenda and location are planned for a later announcement.
